Laine Rettmer is a costume designer and opera director. A regular collaborator with Jay Scheib, her most recent costume designs include, “Electra” by Euripides in Boston, and Jay Scheib's “Platonov or the Disinherited” at La Jolla Playhouse in California and subsequently at The Kitchen in New York City. As the resident director of the New York based company LoftOpera, Rettmer has staged three site specific operas to great acclaim including “La Bohème,” “Il Barbiere di Siviglia,” and “Lucrezia Borgia.” Upcoming she will direct two new operas, "Pedr Solis" and "Switch" in Boston, followed by "The Rape of Lucretia" in New York. She is a graduate of New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and is currently attending the School of the Museum of Fine Art for her MFA in visual arts.
