"Back in 1977 I came in Epidaurus to participate in Karolos Koun's historic production of The Archarnians, a performance presented at the Epidaurus Festival, in cooperation with the Greek Art Theatre. That instance marked my first collaboration with the celebrated director.
Over the next several years, I worked in productions of Peace, The Bacchae, The Trojan Women, Medea, Iphigenia in Aulis, Pluto, Alcestis. Furthermore, I collaborated with the National Theatre of Greece in performances such as Iphigenia in Tauris and The Knights. I also worked in productions by the National Theatre of Northern Greece. During the last 40 years, I have been repeatedly given the opportunity to communicate my music to the audiences of the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus and Lygourio, showcasing my compositions in productions of ancient drama. I have made many great friends here; I have loved this area and felt for it. This is a place I have chosen to inhabit, if you will.
Today, I am given the chance to communicate my songs more directly to these, my quasi-fellow citizens. One could very well say that today marks the 40-year anniversary of my first meeting with the people of Lygourio and Epidaurus.
For this special performance, I have compiled a list of songs, spanning my entire body of work, from my first album, "Katachnia" (1963) to my most recent song cycle, "Floga pou kaiei" (Burning Flame).
The title and subtitle are indicative of the themes I have chosen for tonight's performance."
Organized by the Municipality of Epidaurus and the Epidaurus Cultural Club, hosted by the Athens & Epidaurus Festival.
