A Tribute to Manos Loizos

All Things Remind Me of You

We have enjoyed his songs “For Almost Fifty Years”, ever since he composed his first melodies. He wrote songs that captured the very essence of Greece – her seas (“Jamaica”, “The Mermaid”, “Sinbad the Sailor”, “Bournovas’ Little Caique”), her loves (“All Things Remind Me of You”, “I Follow You”, “The Old Clock”), her concern for social justice (“For Almost Fifty Years”, “The Road”, “The Accordion”, “The Leader”), her loneliness and revelry (“The Soldier”, “I Will Never Love Again”, “One Beside the Other”, “Teli, Teli, Teli”), her darkness and her light (“Oh, My Swallow”, “That Day Will Soon Come”, “A Good-Morning”).

Haris Alexiou dedicates three nights to the songs that always remind us of her dear friend, songs that are still adored today and that have remained in her repertoire throughout her career. The lyrics are, in the main, by Lefteris Papadopoulos and Manolis Rassoulis, but the work of Dimitris Christodoulou, Kostoula Mitropoulou and Fondas Ladis also features. Making a special guest appearance is the contemporary singer-songwriter Nikos Portokaloglou, who takes to the stage to express his respect for the work of Manos Loizos.
