Rodrigo García

Cruda. Vuelta y vuelta. Al punto. Chamuscada

In his latest work, the Argentinean writer, director and set designer Rodrigo García draws upon memories of his childhood, of the Murga and the carnival of the murgueros. Both terms refer to the celebratory aspect of the daily life of Argentina’s working class, where the colours, the dancing and the music of the streets are joined with a thirst for social protest. This is the first time the director has incorporated such a “mosaic of reality” into one of his spectacles, and Murga features one professional actor appearing alongside fifteen murgueros (carnival musicians and dancers) with no previous theatrical experience. The work’s poetic approach is enhanced by texts and moving images from Buenos Aires projected onto a screen.
