Lefteris Papadopoulos: the poet, writer, journalist and lyricist who has been an integral part of Greek culture for many generations now. Moonlight, girls, jasmine flowers, dirt roads all feature prominently in his popular lyrics that have been sung by Greeks continuously since 1963. The great lyricist's songs burst with love, dreams, life, and Greece.
Athens Festival honours the great artist with a tribute evening at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, full of his songs. Leading Greek composers (Theodorakis, Loizos, Kougioumtzis, Xarhakos, Plessas, Spanos, Moutsis) have scored music for his lyrics.and some of the most celebrated Greek singers have performed them over the decades.
