New Hellenic Quartet
Works by Dutilleux, Schnittke, Tsontakis

The recital begins with Ainsi la nuit, for many the greatest piece of chamber music to have been written by Dutilleux, who is one of the best loved composers to have emerged from France in the 20th century and who is still producing work at the age of 91. There follows the polystylistic piece by Schnittke, one of the most important Russian composers of the later 20th century, and the quartet by the award-winning Greek composer George Tsontakis (who lives and works in America) inspired by the oldest known hymn to the Virgin Mary.
