An ensemble of dancers over 40

Paradox
Choreographed by Jiří Kylián

Here are dancers performing in their forties, fifties and sixties! This is not a recent turn of events – it began as early as 1991 when Jiří Kylián, then artistic director of the renowned Nederlands Dans Theater, established an ensemble for dancers past the age of forty. This group sought to fundamentally change the perception that would have the art of dance linked almost exclusively with youth. The ensemble, today known as Paradox, embody the paradox that is dancing with lined faces and with bodies that resist technical perfection and discipline, with the emphasis placed on maturity and the spiritual and mental participation of the dancers. The works are by the celebrated Czech choreographer Jiří Kylián, who is renowned for his great musicality, his ability to move audiences, his love of clean movement, and the generosity of the love he has for all dancers.
