Philharmonia Orchestra - Esa-Pekka Salonen - Michelle DeYoung

Beethoven’s Symphony no. 3 & Wagner’s Götterdämmerung (fragments)

Founded in 1945, the London-based Philharmonia Orchestra is considered one of the world’s leading orchestras, thanks to its pioneering work on classical music, special programmes on audience development, use of digital technology, and learning and participation programmes. Since 2008, the award-winning Esa-Pekka Salonen from Finland serves as principal conductor and artistic advisor of the orchestra. Salonen is one of the foremost conductors of his generation, composer in residence at the New York Philharmonic, and founder and artistic director of the Baltic Sea Festival. Following their hugely successful previous appearance (2009) at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, Philharmonia Orchestra and Esa-Pekka Salonen will return for this year’s Athens Festival, joined by American mezzo-soprano Michelle DeYoung.
