Works by Prokofiev and Stravinsky

“Arguably the world’s greatest orchestra,” according to the British newspaper The Guardian, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic will be descending upon Athens on 7 and 8 June with its music director of twenty years Yuri Temirkanov to perform two thoroughly Russian programmes.


On 8 June they will be performing the masterpiece Symphony νo. 1, “Classical” and Piano Concerto no. 3 by Sergey Prokofiev, along with the explosive Rite of Spring by Igor Stravinsky. Piano soloist at this performance will be the up-and-coming star of the Russian music scene Denis Matsuev, whom the international Press have already dubbed the “new Horowitz”.'
